Frequently Asked Questions
Many legal documents require that signers are verified, that the documents are understood, and are entering the agreement with out being coerced.
A Notary Public is an official commissioned by the office of the Governor of the State of Florida. Notaries are appointed to serve the public as impartial witnesses in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important legal documents.
Some document transactions require the signer to formally declare their understanding of the content and purpose of the document. The signer must also acknowledge that the signature is their own and that they were not coerced into signing. Contracts, deeds, and agreements that include conditions the signer is “agreeing to” typically require acknowledgment. Documents need to be signed before giving verbal acknowledgment, and the signature must be an original signed with wet ink.
Notaries can photocopy and certify original documents, not copies. Certain documents are prohibited from being copied and certified by a notary.
Documents to be copied can not be a public record document, copies can be obtained from the Government agency.
